Nico Van Opstaele: “Especially the easy and clean installation, especially compared to copper or aluminium pipes, inspires us again and again.” In order to ensure a quick installation and thus the adherence to schedules on site, the corrosion-resistant aquatherm black system registers were already produced object-specifically in the main factory of the aquatherm group of companies in Attendorn, so that they only had to be inserted into the metal cassette ceilings in the object.

“For the installation, the flexibility of aquatherm black system is another advantage,” says Nico Van Opstaele. “Recesses in the piping system – for example of ceiling lamps – can be individually taken into account and implemented without any problems. In addition, the ecological aspect convinces us.” The material polypropylene is not only characterized by a long service life, but also by an inherently very good environmental compatibility and recyclability.

In the hospital AZ Delta six chillers with 1000 KW capacity each are used and in combination with heat exchangers ensure that the water runs at a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius through the aquatherm black system registers and cools the patients’ and nurses’ rooms effectively. A ventilation system regulates the humidity. The relatively high temperature compared to other cooling systems enables a particularly energy-saving operation. In combination with a metal cassette ceiling, the registers ensure very good cold distribution.

Thus aquatherm black system fits exactly into the sustainability concept of the new hospital, which is designed to make all activities as energy efficient as possible. Among other things, the hospital’s green roofs serve as thermal insulation in winter and heat shields in summer, a rainwater recovery system conserves the valuable resource of water, and LEDs provide energy-saving lighting. Two combined heat and power plants generate not only energy but also heat for heating and hot water, thus reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
