aquatherm blue is a piping system for heating and cooling systems, as well as technical piping networks, designed to meet the requirements of modern building and industrial systems. Typical applications include cooling water, chilled water, and heating pipework in building services and industrial construction, as well as liquid cooling in data centres.
What is AQUATHERM BLUE and how does the piping system work?
The aquatherm blue piping system is made of corrosion-resistant polypropylene (PP-RCT), which has been specially developed for the transport of cooling and heating media in closed systems. It forms the technical basis for cooling and heating applications in building services and industrial construction – from liquid cooling in data centres to air conditioning and heating systems and plant engineering.
The physical properties of the material are tailored to the requirements of the heating and cooling sector. PP-RCT offers high resistance to temperature and pressure, making it suitable for long-term use in technical piping systems operating under varying conditions. Unlike metallic systems made from steel or copper, PP-RCT does not experience material degradation during operation and forms neither rust nor deposits.
Pipes and fittings are joined by welded connections to form a homogeneous unit with a material-to-material bond. Combined with an extensive range of fittings and connectors, aquatherm blue provides a complete system for pipework installations in closed media circuits.
AQUATHERM BLUE: The advantages of pipe systems for heating and cooling circuits
aquatherm blue impresses through the interplay of material, connection technology and system design. The corrosion-resistant PP-RCT does not react with the common media in cooling and heating circuits – a decisive advantage over copper or steel pipes, where corrosion damage can lead to additional costs over the system’s lifetime.
The material-bonded welded joint creates a leak-proof, low-maintenance piping system without additional sealing points. Installation is significantly faster than with metallic pipe systems – thanks in part to factory prefabrication, which considerably reduces installation times on site.
Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804 are also available for aquatherm blue. In addition, aquatherm is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 as a company.
What applications is AQUATHERM BLUE suitable for?
AQUATHERM BLUE is designed for closed cooling and heating circuits – from single- and two-pipe heating systems, through cold water and refrigeration lines in building services, to cooling water systems in plant engineering and industrial construction. Data centres are becoming an increasingly important focus.
Here, AI servers and GPU clusters deliver rack power densities ranging from 65 to over 150 kW – making liquid cooling via coolant pipes essential. The corrosion-free PP-RCT pipe system prevents sediment and rust formation, ensures continuous operation even during extreme peak loads, and, in combination with aquatherm energy, enables the use of waste heat for district or local heating networks. References such as the Novva hyperscale data centre, as well as data centres operated by Microsoft and Credit Suisse, demonstrate the system’s quality in global use.
Product variants of AQUATHERM BLUE
aquatherm blue is available in various versions for different cooling and heating applications, and can be flexibly adapted to specific pressure, temperature and installation conditions in technical pipe networks. Details on individual variants can be found in the following product information.
Technical Details

The diameter of the pipe determines its location and intended use. To ensure you can install the PP pipe system for heating from the connection point to the outlet, the diameters of the individual pipes and fittings must be compatible with one another. aquatherm blue is available in the following versions:
- aquatherm blue S: Ø 20–32 mm
- aquatherm blue MF: Ø 20–25 mm
- aquatherm blue MF UV: Ø 20–25 mm
- aquatherm blue MF OT: Ø 20–25 mm
- aquatherm blue MF RP: Ø 32–630 mm
- aquatherm blue MF RP UV: Ø 32–630 mm
- aquatherm blue MF RP OT: Ø 20–250 mm

The SDR (Standard Dimension Ratio) is a parameter used to indicate pressure resistance. To ensure a certain level of pressure resistance, a specific maximum SDR value is required, depending on the type of material. The rule is: the greater the wall thickness, the lower the SDR value, and the greater the pressure resistance of the plastic pipe. The unit indicates the ratio between the outer diameter and the wall thickness of a pipe.
The aquatherm blue pipe system is available in the following SDR sizes:
- SDR 7.4: aquatherm blue S | aquatherm blue MF | aquatherm blue MF UV | aquatherm blue MF OT
- SDR 9: aquatherm blue MF RP | aquatherm blue MF RP UV | aquatherm blue MF RP OT
- SDR 11: aquatherm blue S | aquatherm blue MF RP | aquatherm MF RP UV | aquatherm MF RP OT
- SDR 17.6: aquatherm blue MF RP | aquatherm blue MF RP UV
aquatherm blue is manufactured from corrosion-resistant material. This prevents corrosion-related damage to the piping system, for example in industrial construction for air conditioning systems, which can significantly extend its service life. The material used in aquatherm blue is characterised, among other things, by its special high-temperature and extraction stability. The physical and chemical properties are tailored to the specific requirements of the heating and cooling sector. Thanks to its exceptionally good welding properties, the pipe and fitting fuse together to form a homogeneous, material-bonded unit. This advantage has made the fusiolen® material famous worldwide.
The aquatherm blue product family includes all components required for the installation of pipe systems for heating, refrigeration, air conditioning and plant engineering:
• Pipes in coils and/or rings
• Fittings
• Flange sleeves for flanged connections
• Valve connections and accessories
• Transition fittings from polypropylene to metal and from metal to polypropylene
• Weld-in and weld-on sockets
• Manifolds
• Shut-off valves
• Welding equipment and welding tools
• Cutting tools
• Installation aids and fixings
aquatherm blue pipes and fittings can be used with components made of different materials. It must be ensured that the operating parameters designed for polypropylene do not adversely affect these components. Conversely, operating parameters defined for other materials must not damage the PP pipes and fittings installed in the system.
If aquatherm pipes and fittings are classified as resistant to the media being conveyed, this does not automatically apply to the dissimilar material components within the installation. Before installation, ensure that all components used in the pipework system are compatible with the media being conveyed.
Please note: whilst aquatherm pipes and fittings do not require corrosion protection, this may be necessary for metallic components in the system. Do not use aquatherm pipes and fittings with non-aquatherm components under conditions for which those components are unsuitable.
